Locked On: Lakers

45 minutes

Well, after demolishing the New York Knicks, the Los Angeles Lakers laid an absolute egg against the Detroit Pistons, losing 121-102. There wasn’t much to talk about the actual game, outside of D’Angelo Russell’s minutes, but we made do. - Russell followed a 20-minute effort with a 23-minute game, which had other fans and I wondering what might be going on between him and head coach Luke Walton. Harrison was out tonight, so I brought Ben Rosales (also of Silver Screen & Roll) on to cover this and a couple other subjects. - After discussing what might be going on with Russell, we spoke about what this trade deadline might look like now that Magic Johnson is in the fold. The Lakers should be sellers, but they haven’t done that historically and with Johnson now advising Mitch Kupchak and Jim Buss, it’s pretty hard to figure out how they’ll handle the deadline. - Still, we tried. - Finally, as we got yet another report on the Buss family dynamic, Ben and I discussed what it might mean for the Lakers moving forward. For the first time really ever, it feels like the steady hand we’ve had at GM forever might not stick around. - Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
