USAT: Giants Wire

Mar 19, 2022

The flurry of activity in the NFL this week has shaken up the order for the 2022 NFL draft. The New York Giants have the fifth and seventh picks in said draft and at one time certain players were thought to be long gone by the time they were on the clock. - Not so anymore. - Draft Wire’s Luke Easterling maps out how he sees the first round of the draft playing out and it benefits the Giants, who land offensive tackle Evan Neal at No. 5 overall. - 5. New York Giants | Alabama OT Evan Neal - You can make an argument that Neal should be the first pick in this draft and you wouldn’t get much resistance. A freak of an athlete at 6’7″ 1/2 and 337 pounds, Neal would come right in start at either left or right tackle for the Giants. The Giants’ offensive line would no longer be a liability. A godsend of a pick here. - With their second pick of the first round, the Giants land another Day 1 starter. However, this selection may come with a little criticism given what remained on the board. - 7. New York Giants (from CHI) | Florida State EDGE Jermaine Johnson II - Some would lobby for Georgia’s Travon Walker in this spot and I don’t have an issue with that, but they should take another look at Johnson’s tape. The 6-foot-5, 265 pounder had gotten lost due to his transfer from Georgia to Florida State and his generic name hasn’t helped. Make no mistake, this kid is a dangerous defender who offensive coordinators will have to account for. - In short, the Giants get two big bodies, one on each side of the ball, and finally give themselves a chance to compete. - - List - - 2022 NFL draft: Giants select a new QB in full 7-round mock - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Giants Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Giants Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
