The New York Giants were forced to absorb a significant dead cap hit earlier this month following the surprising release of safety Logan Ryan. - The decision to move on from Ryan, a team captain whose release provided almost no cap relief, was a curious one. It not only created an additional void at safety, but removed a positive voice from the locker-room. - On Thursday, while being introduced as the newest member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Ryan admitted the release caught him off guard and that it wasn’t his decision. - “Yeah, it wasn’t my call,” Ryan told reporters. “It was the direction (the Giants) wanted to go.” - And that was it. Ryan offered no further insight into the team’s decision, if there had been a requested pay cut or if it was a straight, no-frills divorce. - Whatever the case may be, Ryan is thrilled to reunite with Tom Brady in Tampa Bay. - “I’m really excited about being on the Bucs,” Ryan said. “We talk about Tom (Brady) and a lot about this and some of the roster, but also the building. There’s just a great building here, talking to (coach Bruce Arians) about what he believes in his players and his players policing the locker room, how he respects and believes in his veterans, values his veterans, that just felt so great. - “There’s a lot of reasons that things are moving in a great direction here and it has a lot to do with the people in this building.” - The Giants and Buccaneers do not play in 2022, so there will be no grudge match for Ryan to circle on his calendar. But that probably won’t sour him given that Tampa Bay is among the early Super Bowl favorites. - Follow the Giants Wire Podcast: - Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Google Podcasts - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Giants Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Giants Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
