When Joe Schoen was named general manager of the New York Giants earlier this year, he knew he had his hands full. There would be many tough roster decisions to be made especially when it came to veteran players. - One veteran, Logan Ryan — a Pro Bowl caliber safety — was released last week for several reasons. - First and foremost, Ryan was one of the many bloated contracts that Schoen was saddled with by his predecessor, Dave Gettleman, even though releasing him only added $775K in cap space. - Secondly, Ryan, a defensive captain, is likely not in their plans and the new coaching staff wants to install their own leadership group. - “Best decision for the New York Giants,” Schoen said. “We thought it was best talking with the new staff that that was the best. I wish Logan nothing but the best.” - Ryan was immediately inked by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but that is beside the point. The Giants are moving on and are no longer hanging on to players for the sake of doing so. They are truly in a rebuilding mode. - Follow the Giants Wire Podcast: - Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Google Podcasts - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Giants Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Giants Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
