The New York Giants will undoubtedly look into adding to their tight end room in the 2022 NFL draft, and this class is full of capable players at the position. - One player the Giants have shown interest in is Maryland’s Chigoziem Okonkwo, who ran the fasted 40 time (4.52) among the tight end group at this year’s NFL Combine. - The Giants were among many teams on hand at Maryland’s pro day this week. - - Maryland TE Chigoziem Okonkwo said he has had in depth conversations with the Ravens, Giants, Titans, Saints, Browns and others. He said it would be cool to play with QB Lamar Jackson. - “You don't really get to see that many extraordinary talents like that.” pic.twitter.com/EL64kYD1VQ - — Ryan McFadden (@ryanmcfadden_) March 30, 2022 - - - The 6-foot-2, 238-pound Okonkwo may be a tad small to be a prototype NFL tight end, but that could be overlooked by teams who could use a versatile athlete at the position. - “I’ve been doing this since I was 7,” Okonkwo said, via the Baltimore Sun. “It’s been my No. 1 goal my entire life. . .I can play every role. I can play out wide, the slot, the backfield. I can cause mismatches, and I can block.” - The latter part remains to be seen at the pro level. Okonkwo is basically the same size as Evan Engram, and we all know how that worked out. But Engram was a first round pick. Okonkwo will likely be a Day 3 section. - Follow the Giants Wire Podcast: - Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Google Podcasts - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Giants Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Giants Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
