The Last Dance Episode 1 & 2 Recap - Jalen Green - HORSE / Welcome back to another episode of The Drive & Dish NBA podcast, hosted by Kevin Rafuse (@rafusetolose) & Justin Cousart (@JustinContheAir). Despite no hoops because of Coronavirus, the duo is back with another jam packed episode. First up, the first two episodes of The Last Dance documentary on Michael Jordan & the 98 Bulls debuted on ESPN. The guys break down their initial reactions to the doc, including why it so cool for them to see the Bulls back in action. Justin debates the timeline issues of the documentary, while both are amazed at how low Scottie Pippen was paid towards the end of his time with Chicago. That plus their favorite classic Jordan moments from the first episodes, and the 80’s narratives that were debunked a bit. The guys then jump into Who’s Ballin Who’s Fallin which includes Sabrina Ionescu getting drafted #1 overall in the WNBA draft to the New York Liberty. Kevin discusses why this could be a major deal for the league. Justin gets a laugh at Jimmy Butler who in a classic Jimmy move sent all his teammates hoops to make sure they stay working. Negatives this week include Kevin Knox’s long term outlook with the Knicks & Steph Curry just learning how to type properly. After that, the guys dive into the NBA’s horse tournament, won by Mike Conley. The duo recaps all the action, and explains why it just didn’t work overall as an event, but also why that’s not the NBA’s fault. The other big news of the week comes from Jalen Green. Kevin & Justin discuss why him choosing to go the G-League route is such a big deal, and how it legitimizes the process. They also discuss the impact on college basketball and it’s potential to pull in top recruits. Download & subscribe to the podcast on iTunes & leave us a review. Before hoops, the guys update what they’ve been updated (hint, not much) during the outbreak including Tiger King. After that, the duo dives right into the action, including Marcus Smart and the other 4 Brooklyn Nets recovering from Coronavirus, and growing pessimism that the NBA season will resume this year’s season. Kevin looks at the updated timeline with Toronto banning public events thru June 30th, and Justin says why it would need weeks to take off anyway. After that, the guys jump into some Who’s Ballin Who’s Fallin, including a Vince Carter autograph not from VC as the two put their detective hats on. Other topics include LaMelo Ball buying his Australian team, Garrett Temple studying to be a law student, and the Knicks apparent interest in Sixers GM Elton Brand. The guys discuss why that makes no sense at all. After that, the duo gets into some discussion about the first few games of the NBA 2k tournament. Justin looks over some key highlights from each matchup, including Pat Bev being able to tell the future, and Zach Lavine doing a 360 dunk from the free-throw line. Kevin explains why he was disappointed in the event overall, and how it needs a lot of work to become more sustainable. Finally, the guys end the show with some Hot Takes from Reddit, which this week includes league’s ending their seasons after Toronto wins their first championships. Free agency match-making, Saving the NBA awards, White whale games / Ben Golliver and Michael Pina open with a summary of the NBA's looming $1 billion hit due to the coronavirus and possible impacts on next year's salary cap. Should the owners and players agree to "smooth" a possible record cap decline? From there, Michael plays matchmaker between 2020 free agents and teams, pairing Fred VanVleet with the Knicks, Montrezl Harrell with the Pistons and Paul Millsap with the Suns. Then, the guys take questions from the Open Floor Globe. How should the NBA save its annual awards show? Were Anfernee Hardaway and Shaquille O'Neal underrated as a duo? Which 1980s-era playoff games do Ben and Michael wish they had been alive to see? At the end, they address a distraught high school senior and an emailer who is seeking forgiveness after lying to Open Floor about his love life. - Learn more about your ad-choices at https://www.iheartpodcastnetwork.com

John Beilein's slugs, RJ Barrett's blurry Knicks existence & the NBA's biggest dead ends / On today's show, Ben Golliver and Michael Pina discuss the John Beilein controversy in Cleveland. Is his "thugs vs. slugs" explanation believable? What do these repeated leaks say about his job security? How should the Cavaliers handle the next month until the trade deadline? From there, Ben and Michael consider RJ Barrett's rough rookie existence and launch into their rankings of the NBA's biggest dead end destinations. For elite NBA draft prospects, what's the worst place to land: Cleveland, Charlotte or Detroit? Do the Bulls and... gasp... the Spurs deserve mention too? Knicks change coaches, Giannis vs. LeBron Finals dreams, the case for Team Fandom / On today's episode, Ben Golliver and Michael Pina ask the questions no one else is asking about the New York Knicks' coaching change. Who, really, is to blame for the players' lack of effort? If Masai Ujiri were to actually consider becoming Knicks president, what type of ludicrous negotiation demands should he make? Can we safely assure an Australian listener that the Knicks won't make the 2020 playoffs? From there, they switch gears to digging into the narrative possibilities of a 2020 NBA Finals match-up between Giannis Antetokounmpo's Milwaukee Bucks and LeBron James's Los Angeles Lakers. Which factors make this potential showdown of juggernauts so exciting? Would it be more like the 1991 Finals or the 2007 Finals? Knicks coaching crisis, Harden's place in the hierarchy, Shot quality vs. shot location / On today's podcast, Ben Golliver and Rob Mahoney discuss the dilapidated state of the Knicks. Is there any coach, or person, alive who could replace David Fizdale and find success? Why did the front office shift its expectations between July and November? Which of New York's young building blocks are keepers? From there, Ben and Rob debate James Harden's place in the NBA hierarchy and dissect Russell Westbrook's dismissal of Patrick Beverley. After discussing the relative importance of shot location and shot distribution, they close with a painful email from a British listener whose 2016 USA road trip was ruined by Klay Thompson. Note: This is Rob's last episode as co-host. Ben will welcome a new co-host on the next episode, which will be released on Tuesday. - Learn more about your ad-choices at https://www.iheartpodcastnetwork.com

Episode 61 - The Cool Factor with Tracey Mills from Complexcon / On this episode, we come to you from Complexcon. The yearly event of sneaker heads, hype best and culture connoisseurs, we had an invite to do a show in front of the Long Beach audience at the event. - We go in on the theme of coolness and culture as it applies to a basketball team. To get us to that point, we brought on long time hoop guru, coach and fashion head, Tracey Mills. Brother of NBA vet Chris Mills, Tracey came up on the LA hoop scene and goes way back with the young NBA phenom that was Gilbert Arenas. - We pick things up in the wake of KD’s comments about opting for the Nets over the Knicks, and that for young players, the Knicks simply aren’t cool. Of course there’s context to every comment, but we examine what makes a team cool, how you build a culture when there isn’t one and what it really all comes down to vision. Also, there’s the thing about ownership, because we all know money matters. - - Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
