The four team Kokumin (National) League played a 30 game summer season in 1947. The monopolistic practices of the dominant Nippon Professional Baseball Leagues helped bring an end to the new rival league. The Kokumin League disbanded after a few games into the 1947 fall season.
Former NPB player Sam Uchiya told me that players who contemplated jumping to the National League were threatened with lifetime banishment from Nippon Pro Baseball.
