When powerhouse Kingston announced it was departing for the ABL, they faced Catskill in a best of three-game playoff series to conclude the MBL permanently.
The Metropolitan Basketball League struggled to revitalize its organization by expanding outside the New York City area with former New York State League teams such as Albany, Kingston and Troy. In early January, the league was staggered by the loss of its strongest franchise when the Brooklyn Visitation joined the ABL. The Metropolitan League kept going for two more weeks and then folded. Kingston was declared champion of the abbreviated season.
