Bill Dickey was a legendary baseball player who played an impressive 19 seasons in Major League Baseball. During his illustrious career, Dickey was an eight-time All-Star and was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1954. He played for the New York Yankees for the entirety of his career and was inducted into the Yankees Hall of Fame

Additionally Joe Dimaggio was in the midst of his 56- game hitting streak. At the time of this game, his streak stood at 48 games.
