Ralph Faucher, a distinguished figure in the world of sports broadcasting, left a lasting legacy through his extensive career, particularly in the Chicago area. Over 25 years, Ralph became a familiar voice for high school basketball fans, bringing games from Oak Park-River Forest High School, Morton High School, and Lyons High School into homes through LaGrange radio station WTAQ. His dedication to prep sports extended beyond the microphone as he later assumed ownership of WVFV-FM in Dundee, continuing his support for young athletes and local sports programs.

One of the pinnacles of Ralph's career was his partnership with the legendary Harry Caray, where he served as Caray's partner on White Sox radio for the 1971 and 1972 seasons. During this period, the White Sox struggled with the absence of a large AM station in Chicago to broadcast their games. Ralph, utilizing his role as both sportscaster and sales manager at WTAQ, collaborated with the White Sox organization to form a unique network of radio stations around Chicago. This network included stations such as FM 105.1 WEAW-FM Evanston/Chicago, AM 1300 WTAQ LaGrange, and several others, extending even beyond the Chicago area to cities like South Bend and Springfield, ensuring fans could follow their team from anywhere.

Ralph’s innovation and commitment to sports broadcasting significantly shaped the way fans engaged with their favorite teams, particularly at a time when access to games was more limited. His efforts helped cement the connection between the White Sox and their fan base during a transformative period for the team and for radio broadcasting.

In retirement, Ralph chose the serene backdrop of Eagle River, Wisconsin, where he continued to engage with the broadcasting world, working part-time at stations WERL and WRJO. His passion for sports and broadcasting never waned, as he remained connected to the pulse of the industry he helped shape.

Ralph Faucher passed away on September 22, 2017, at the age of 91, leaving behind a rich legacy in sports broadcasting that touched many lives across generations. His career not only highlighted his love for sports but also his dedication to bringing communities together through the power of radio.
