The Baltimore Ravens have been a coaching factory over the course of their franchise history. Many other organizations look to Baltimore when they’re in the process of hiring coaches and executives due to the team’s long and storied history of success. One former Ravens coach that got an opportunity elsewhere was David Culley, who was hired away by the Houston Texans to be their head coach. Baltimore’s former assistant head coach/wide receivers coach put together a 4-13 record in his first year with the Texans, but on Thursday it was announced that Houston fired Culley after his first season with the team. The #Texans are firing coach David Culley, per me and @MikeGarafolo. — Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) January 13, 2022 Many view Culley’s firing as unfair, especially because of the roster that he was given and what he was able to get out of it. He was working with a developmental rookie quarterback in Davis Mills for most of the season, and even with the Texans being massive underdogs in game after game, he was still able to secure four wins, which is more than most expected. Due to adjustments to the Rooney Rule, Baltimore was awarded two third-round compensatory picks for Culley’s departure, one in 2021 and one in 2022. His firing doesn’t change the compensation that the Ravens received. Email Sign up Like this article?
