The Baltimore Ravens’ 2021 season concluded in Week 18 after a 16-13 loss against their division rivals in the Pittsburgh Steelers. In the aftermath of an 8-9 season, a lot of Ravens fans have been calling for offensive coordinator Greg Roman to be fired, as Baltimore’s offensive unit struggled mightily in the second half of the season.Fans want to see a change this offseason and Roman has been a key talking point ever since the 2020 season ended. However, when looking at what the Ravens’ offense did during the 2021 regular season, they had a top-five rushing offense statistically and also finished sixth in total yards with 6,440. Those numbers are somewhat impressive, especially without players such as running backs J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley, and even quarterback Lamar Jackson for the last six games of the season. While some of the numbers surrounding Roman are impressive, he does have clear flaws. His run offenses have been spectacular over his career as an offensive coordinator, but his pass offenses have struggled. The Ravens showed many flashes over the first half of the season, the second half of the year left much to be desired, although most of that stretch was played without Jackson. After a year in which the Baltimore offense ranked 17th in points, things do have to change. However, injuries were a key part of the reason why the unit wasn’t what many have become used to over the Lamar Jackson era. Roman does shoulder some of the blame, but if Baltimore decides to keep him, one of the reasons why might be because they want to see what the offensive coordinator can do with a fully healthy offense. If the struggles still continue early into next season, then the team could seriously look to making a change. However, for now it seems as if Roman could get another chance to prove that he can be the guy to help the Ravens’ offense grow.EmailSign upLike this article?Sign up for the Ravens Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morningAn error has occuredPlease re-enter your email address. Thanks for signing up!You'll now receive the top Ravens Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
