Quarterback Davis Webb left the Buffalo Bills for the New York Giants over the weekend. As a practice squad player, Webb could be signed by prior to free agency’s official start in March. - Like a few others, Webb decided to ultimately follow Brian Daboll to New York. Daboll was hired as the Giants’ head coach. - But there might have been another reason Webb did so, a bit simpler one: He wanted to keep playing. - According to The Athletic, the Bills wanted Webb to stick around but in a coaching role as an assistant quarterbacks coach. If true, it appears Webb wanted to continue his role as a player and opted to sign in New York. - At only 27, Webb’s decision isn’t all that surprising. - For an extended time now, Webb has been considered as a backup/ QB coach himself regarding Buffalo starter Josh Allen. With the Giants, he’ll likely translate a similar role over to QB Daniel Jones in New York. - Webb’s age is probably the No. 1 thing to keep in mind here for another reason. If he wants to keep playing, good for him. - But add this layer: If the current Bills coaching staff led by Sean McDermott is still in place a couple of years down the road, there’s always a chance they can finally convince Webb to take that QB coaching position. - Just last week, Buffalo hired Joe Brady to be their lead quarterbacks coach as well. - Along with Jones, Webb also joins a QB room in New York with Jake Fromm. The Giants signed the former Bills draft pick off their practice squad during the 2021 season. - - RelatedJosh Allen, Bills rule New York State in jersey salesBills' Stefon Diggs recruited at Pro Bowl: 'I’m telling guys to come to Buffalo'Stefon Diggs switches places, locks down brother Trevon at Pro Bowl (video) - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Bills Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Bills Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
