On Saturday the Buffalo Bills turned in a historic performance against a franchise that reigned atop the NFL for much of the past 20 years. - They beat the New England Patriots in a 47-17 landslide victory. - In doing so, the Bills did something no team has ever done before. They became the first team in NFL history not to attempt a FG, punt, a fourth-down, or commit a turnover in a single game (regular season, or playoffs.) - What the team did do was score a touchdown on every one of their seven offensive drives until backup QB Mitch Trubisky entered the game at the end of the fourth quarter to take a knee and run out the remaining game clock. - They made some more NFL history along the way to the 47-point final. - When they scored their second TD it was the second scoring catch of the day to Dawson Knox and the first time a TE ever has caught two scores in the first quarter of an NFL playoff game. - When they scored their fourth TD, the Bills just became the first team to score a touchdown on four straight drives to start a game against the Patriots under Bill Belichick. The 19 first downs that Buffalo had in the first half were the most ever against the Patriots under the legendary coach (they’d finish with 29 total). The 24 points halftime deficit was the largest in Patriots playoff history, and the 30-point differential in the final score was also the largest playoff loss Belichick has had as a head coach. - With their fifth score of the day, Buffalo became the first team in the Super Bowl era with a TD on every one of their first five drives in a playoff game, per the Elias Sports Bureau. They would add to that number as well. - QB Josh Allen had a historic day in his own right amidst a career-high 84% completion percentage and five touchdown passes on play-action plays, which is the most of any player in any game, be it regular-season or playoffs since ESPN began tracking throws in 2006. He also set a new Bills single-game playoff record for passing TDs with his fifth score of the game. - It was also a night of firsts for a number of other Bills as well. - RB Devin Singletary, who finished with two TDs, had his first-ever postseason score, DE Boogie Basham notched his first career playoff sack, and CB Levi Wallace had his first career postseason INT. - Perhaps the most surprising of those firsts, however, was that of an NFL veteran. WR Emmanuel Sanders, that is. - In his 14th playoff game in the NFL, Sanders caught the first postseason touchdown of his career, reeling in  Allen’s third touchdown throw of the game on a 34-yard deep ball in the third quarter. - - Allen to Sanders! - : @NFLonCBS pic.twitter.com/0aTURrLopy - — Buffalo Bills (@BuffaloBills) January 16, 2022 - - - The Bills will next look to carry their momentum into their second round playoff matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs next Saturday in a rematch of last year’s AFC Championship game. - - RelatedNational reactions: Everyone is already pumped to see Bills vs. ChiefsBills at Chiefs divisional round matchup slatedBills TE Dawson Knox on his historic performance in wild-card win - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Bills Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Bills Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
