From the Carolinas to New Orleans and everywhere around and in between—countless people had been awaiting to hear Sam Mills’ name officially set for immortalization into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. And it was only fitting that the person who heard it first was the one who understood that journey the most. - After the three-time All-Pro and five-time Pro Bowl linebacker was finally elected, the Panthers released the call. Picking up Pro Football Hall of Fame president Jim Porter’s ring was Sam Mills III, the son of one of Canton’s newest residents. - - The call to The Hall pic.twitter.com/bdAuLIL8Uj - — Carolina Panthers (@Panthers) February 11, 2022 - - - Shortly following his father’s passing in 2005, Mills III began his NFL coaching career with the Panthers as their strength and conditioning coach and a defensive assistant. He was a staple of the staff all the way up to the 2019 campaign—having also served as the team’s defensive quality control coach, assistant defensive line coach and defensive line coach during his 15 years in Carolina. - Mills III moved on to Washington alongside Ron Rivera last season, where he’ll be entering his third season heading their defensive line in 2022. - There’s no doubt that Mills would be proud of his boy for the mark he’s currently making in the game he so passionately loved. And there’s also no doubt, especially on Thursday night, that his son is proud of him, too. - - RelatedPanthers legend Sam Mills named to North Carolina Sports Hall of FameSteve Smith Sr. congratulates Sam Mills on being named Hall of Fame finalist - - List - - Panthers react to Sam Mills' Hall of Fame election - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Panthers Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Panthers Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
