When the Carolina Panthers lost defensive tackle DaQuan Jones to the Buffalo Bills—they lost a reliable, productive and, quite frankly, overlooked piece to their roster. So, now they’ll have to replace him. - They may have found that worthy replacement in Matt Ioannidis, who was released just two days ago by the Washington Commanders. As first reported by Ben Standig of The Athletic, the Panthers are expected to sign the 6-foot-3, 310-pounder to a one-year deal. - - Former Washington DT Matt Ioannidis is expected to sign a 1-year deal with the Carolina Panthers, per source. - — Ben Standig (@BenStandig) March 18, 2022 - - - Ioannidis is now back to having Matt Rhule as his head coach, as the two crossed paths at Temple University between 2013 and 2015. The former Owl was then selected by Washington in the fifth round of the 2016 draft. - He’s gone to on put together a relatively impactful six-year career. His most eye-opening campaigns, at least on the box score, came in 2018 and 2019—where he totaled 16.0 sacks. This past season, he registered 38 tackles, 2.5 sacks and 11 quarterback hits over 16 games. - Overall, Ioannidis is a versatile piece—something defensive coordinator Phil Snow will enjoy using once again. Not only can he line up and start in the void left behind by Jones, but the 28-year-old can certainly man the edge if needed. - - RelatedHere's why Deshaun Watson didn't want to go to the PanthersPanthers reportedly showing interest in P Johnny Hekker - - List - - Panthers 2022 free agency tracker - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Panthers Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Panthers Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
