Yesterday, the Carolina Panthers took care of one of their own in wide receiver DJ Moore. Today, they’ve gone and done it again with another homegrown talent. - As announced by the team on Saturday morning, the Panthers have agreed to terms on a new contract with cornerback Donte Jackson. It’ll be—according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport—a three-year, $35.1 million deal for the 26-year-old defender. - The Panthers first plucked the Louisiana State University product out of the second round of the 2018 NFL draft. Since then, especially following an eye-opening 4.32-second 40-yard dash at the combine, it’s been off to the races for the speedy corner. - Over his four-year career, Jackson has amassed 209 combined tackles, 12 interceptions and two forced fumbles. The advanced statistics have backed up his worth as well—specifically as an above-average player against opposing ground games—with Pro Football Focus grading him out at a 75.7 and a 78.5 versus the run between 2020 and 2021. - Jackson will now stick around and continue to head a young and promising group of corners that include Jaycee Horn, CJ Henderson, Keith Taylor Jr. and Myles Hartsfield. This will, however, very likely spell the end of Stephon Gilmore’s stay in Carolina. - - RelatedMatt Rhule: Panthers CB Donte Jackson 'growing a lot as a player'Panthers CB Donte Jackson on secondary: 'We can be dominant' - - List - - Recapping the Panthers' frenzied Friday of free agency - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Panthers Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Panthers Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
