He may not exactly abide by Les Snead’s line of thinking, but Carolina Panthers general manager Scott Fitterer has his own interesting approach when it comes to draft picks. And according to Pro Football Focus, it’s also a highly effective one. - The man that’s “in on every deal” is already no stranger to draft-day swaps, and good ones at that. So despite having just a single go at the event thus far, Fitterer made the most of his debut whilst wheeling and dealing. - In their recent study to figure out which current general manager has gotten the most out of their draft-day trades from the past five years, PFF concluded that Fitterer tops the whole bunch. In accordance with the Fitzgerald-Spielberger Draft Value Chart, the average value gained from Fitterer’s five deals in 2021 averaged out higher than the body of work by any other general manager included in the findings. - PFF.com - “Fitterer benefits from only having one draft in the sample, but it was a strong draft from a trade perspective,” PFF’s Conor McQuiston writes of the Carolina shot-caller. “He only traded up once and lost an inconsequential amount of value that he later made up in a terrific trade down with Houston. While it is unlikely he will trade this well every year, it is an encouraging sign nonetheless for Panthers fans.” - The Panthers entered last year’s draft with seven picks and, as a result of Fitterer’s wizardry, came out with 12—including a 2022 fourth-rounder. They also came out tying a franchise-record of 11 draft picks made. - So if Fitterer likes to trade down and stockpile draft capital, does he . . . tuck them picks? - - RelatedDan Orlovsky: Panthers QB Sam Darnold is more talented than 2022 draft classPanthers GM Scott Fitterer, HC Matt Rhule not at Desmond Ridder's pro day - - List - - 6 biggest takeaways from Panthers GM Scott Fitterer on Friday - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Panthers Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Panthers Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
