While their search for a new offensive coordinator is shaping up to be a broad one, the Carolina Panthers are apparently also open to keeping it local. As noted by MMQB senior NFL reporter Albert Breer, the Panthers will be interviewing Shelby, N.C. native Scottie Montgomery for the opening. The 43-year-old is currently the running backs coach for the Indianapolis Colts. The Panthers will interview Colts RBs coach Scottie Montgomery for their open offensive-coordinator position, per source. Montgomery is Jonathan Taylor's position coach in Indy, and a former Mike Tomlin assistant. — Albert Breer (@AlbertBreer) January 13, 2022 In addition to his North Cackalacky roots, Montgomery spent a good chunk of his coaching career with two of the state’s most prominent college programs. His first stop (which actually turned into two) was with Duke University—where he served as the Blue Devils’ wide receivers coach from 2006 to 2009, then in a plethora of roles (associate head coach, offensive coordinator, passing game coordinator, quarterbacks coach and wide receivers coach again) from 2013 to 2015. He then moved on to become the head coach at East Carolina University in 2016. Over his three seasons there, the Pirates went 9-26 before his termination in 2018.
