Charlotte Hornets NBA Playoffs Round 1 Primer with ESPN.com's Michael Wallace / Familiarity can breed contempt and angst but it can also breed great basketball. The Charlotte Hornets and Miami Heat have played each other four times this season. Three out of the four were extremely close contests with big rallies by each team. Then 1995 happened, Kevin Garnett exploded onto the scene and for the next ten years prep stars invaded late June. It only lasted a decade but the ramifications are still being felt all over the Association. The Charlotte Hornets will always be linked with this time. The Charlotte Hornets Newfound Road-Savvy Will Be Put to the Test / The Charlotte Hornets have used the month of March to refocus their efforts away from Time Warner Cable Arena. If you ask players and coaches they will tell you, winning on the road isn't an exact science...it's closer to an art form. It take a special focus and determination to close another team out in front of a hostile crowd and an unfamiliar building. Unless they can move decidedly past two of the three teams competing with them for the 3rd through 6th seed, they will need to find a way to beat good teams on the road. Being grown up is hard, coaching them...even harder / Charlotte Hornets head coach Steve Clifford is normally very open with the media after games or practices. He loves to talk about the finer details of NBA basketball. That's why when I heard he did an entire podcast on The Vertical's new network, I scrambled immediately for my phone and earbuds. Whether you agree or disagree with his coaching decisions or style, you're all but forced to respect his candor. His players repeatedly refer to him as a "no-nonsense type of guy." Taking stock with Justin Thomas of ESPN 730 / The Charlotte Hornets began their 7 game home stand with back to back victories against the Brooklyn Nets and Philadelphia 76ers. I recap the week that was and talk with Justin Thomas of ESPN 730 about how the Hornets have been able to turn a tough schedule into an above-.500 start in November (so far). And the media is beginning to take notice not only of the changes on the court but some of the interesting characters this team has off the court. From Jeremy Lin's hair choices, to what Kemba Walker remembers about the 7-59 team to Frank Kaminksy's oddball personality on twitter, this team is ready to present themselves to all NBA fans, but first they know they have to win. - - - Learn more about your ad choices. Saturday Sit-Down: JB of Posterdunk.com on Nic Batum's summer / This week's Saturday sit-down has some international flavors. I talked with JB from the Posterdunk podcast, part of Posterdunk.com, a French NBA website. JB knows all about Nic Batum's NBA career and his international ups and downs with the French national team. - - Unfortunately this summer was a bit of a downer for Batum and France. The French national team lost to Spain in a thriller of a semifinal matchup at the international Eurobasket tournament. While Batum hit a three pointer to send the game into overtime, he missed critical free throws down the stretch to send France to the finals. Overall his summer stats were underwhelming. He averaged only 9.1 points on 35 percent shooting (including 6/35 from three), 3.6 rebounds and 1 turnover for every 1.3 assists. - - Should Hornets fans be worried about his summer struggles or will Nic Batum bounce back this preseason and beyond? - - - Learn more about your ad choices.
