After a week of frustration for the Dallas Cowboys’ fanbase, the organization has finally brought in a free agent who wasn’t wearing a star on their helmet last season. The club traded away WR1 Amari Cooper to the Cleveland Browns, starting a quest for the front office to achieve as much cap space as possible. They then, expectedly, lost Cedrick Wilson in free agency. He went to the Dolphins, leaving a void for WR4. - Now that void has been filled. On Friday the Cowboys agreed to terms with James Washington, a former second-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers. - - Cowboys have added their first external free agent. Former Steelers WR James Washington is coming to Dallas on a one-year contract, source said. - — Michael Gehlken (@GehlkenNFL) March 18, 2022 - - - Washington was drafted in 2018 out of Oklahoma State with the 60th overall selection. The Abilene native returns home to Texas, after 60 games and 25 starts in the black and yellow. Washington’s best season was his second, in 2017, when he caught 44 balls for 735 yards, a 16.7 average. His career high five receiving touchdowns happened the next season, but he’s never achieved the type of career that many expected for the 5-foot-11, 213 pound boundary receiver. - He didn’t get a ton of looks during his rookie season, which is the last time he played with a competent starting quarterback. Ben Roethlisberger missed much of 2017 and wasn’t the same QB in 2020 and 2021 as his career came to an end. Now Washington will catch passes from an in-his-prime Dak Prescott, alongside CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup. - The move was first predicted by former Dallas and Oklahoma State Cowboys WR Dez Bryant. - - James Washington to the Dallas cowboys just know you heard it first right here…. - — Dez Bryant (@DezBryant) March 15, 2022 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Cowboys Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Cowboys Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
