Former Denver Broncos coach Vic Fangio called the team’s defensive plays from 2019-2021 and while the defense typically played very well, some of Fangio’s other head coach duties — such as clock management — suffered. - Fangio was fired at the end of the 2021 season and the Broncos are replacing him with former Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett. Denver’s offensive plays will now be called by Hackett, and he aims to apply what he learned from Packers coach Matt LaFleur. - “Matt LaFleur came in as a first-time head coach, and I was able to watch him maneuver that — from being both a head football coach and calling plays,” Hackett said during his introductory press conference last week. “I think it’s about being able to budget your time — understand what you need to get done so you have the ability to be great on gameday because in the end, that’s the most important thing. - “I think for me, it’s going to be about budgeting all of my time — being efficient. That’s something I pride myself in. Not wasting a lot of time, making sure everyone is prepared and ready and to be able to do that is having that great staff. [If] you have that great staff, you’re capable of doing anything. I’m very excited to get back to doing that.” - Under Hackett, Green Bay’s offense ranked ninth in scoring last season (Denver’s offense ranked 22nd). He’ll aim to help turn the Broncos’ offense around in 2022, while also aiming to avoid Fangio’s shortfalls. - - Gallery - Broncos throwback: 50 best photos from Super Bowl 50 - - - - - - view 50 images - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Broncos Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Broncos Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
