After being fired as head coach of the Denver Broncos following the 2021 season, Vic Fangio was widely expected to get a job as a defensive coordinator elsewhere in the NFL. - Fangio received “multiple offers” from teams with DC openings, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, but he declined them and the 63-year-old coach is now expected to sit out the 2022 NFL season. Fangio also had a head coach interview with at least one team. - This isn’t an unprecedented decision. Doug Pederson sat out last season before taking a job with the Jacksonville Jaguars this year, and other coaches have taken similar breaks in the past. - Fangio will likely become a top defensive coordinator candidate in 2023 when teams are looking to change or build coaching staffs. - The Broncos, meanwhile, replaced Fangio with Nathaniel Hackett as their new head coach. Hackett is expected to hire Los Angeles Rams secondary coach/passing game coordinator Ejiro Evero as his DC. - Follow the Broncos Wire Podcast: - Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Google Podcasts - - - Gallery - Broncos throwback: 50 best photos from Super Bowl 50 - - - - - - view 50 images - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Broncos Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Broncos Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
