The Denver Broncos had a plus-one turnover differential last season, which ranked near the middle of the league (15th). Denver had 18 giveaways on offense compared to 19 takeaways on defense. - The team’s 18 offensive giveaways actually wasn’t a bad number — it tied for the sixth-best in the NFL and was a huge improvement from 2020 when the Broncos led the league with 32 giveaways. - New Broncos offensive coordinator Justin Outten hopes to continue the team’s trend of reducing turnovers. - “The ball is everything, and you’re going to hear that over and over again,” Outten said Tuesday. “When you win the turnover battle — plus-one, you’re at 72 percent win percentage. Then if you’re plus-two, it goes up to 82 percent. That ball is everything in this offense.” - Outten’s desire to keep turnover numbers down might not be a great sign for quarterback Drew Lock, who threw 15 interceptions and fumbled eight times in 13 games in 2020. Teddy Bridgewater, on the other hand, threw seven interceptions and fumbled once in 14 games last season. - Lock has shown some improvement, though, as the 25-year-old quarterback was turnover-free in his three starts last season. - “I want to see how he fits in the system a little bit more once he gets the playbook under him, and then we’ll go from there,” Outten said of Lock. - If Lock wants another shot in 2022, protecting the ball will be key. - Follow the Broncos Wire Podcast: - Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Google Podcasts - - - List - - 30 best draft prospects at Broncos' biggest positions of need - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Broncos Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Broncos Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
