The Denver Broncos have agreed to trade for Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson (the deal will become official next week), and the team still has a healthy salary cap position even after landing the franchise QB. - In addition to trading five draft picks, the Broncos are also sending three players (and their cap hits) to the Seahawks: quarterback Drew Lock ($1.451 million), tight end Noah Fant ($2.211 million) and defensive lineman Shelby Harris ($7.97 million). Seattle will inherit those three players’ contracts. - Denver, meanwhile, will acquire Wilson’s contract. The 33-year-old quarterback is set to have a cap hit of $24 million this year and $27 million next year, according to Spotrac.com. That’s a bargain by today’s QB market, and the Broncos will likely give him an extension at some point. - After accounting for signing bonuses and other “dead money” factors, Jason Fitzgerald of OverTheCap.com estimated that Denver had a net loss of about $16.8 million in salary cap space from the Wilson trade. The Seahawks only gained about $775,000 in cap space.  - That’s a huge win for the Broncos, even if a big extension might be in store for Wilson. Denver still has more than $26 million in 2022 cap space, according to OTC’s conservative estimate. The Broncos can still afford to make more splashes once NFL free agency begins next week. - Follow the Broncos Wire Podcast: - Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Google Podcasts - - - List - - 5 free agent tight ends Broncos should consider to replace Noah Fant - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Broncos Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Broncos Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
