After dazzling in preseason last summer as a dangerous deep threat in the Denver Broncos’ offense, wide receiver KJ Hamler suffered a torn ACL last September and missed all but three games in 2021. - There’s good news on the injury front for Hamler, though, as the receiver told Kyle Newman of the Denver Post on Wednesday that he’s ahead of schedule in his recovery. - Hamler said he’s sprinting again and aiming to be ready for Week 1 (the Broncos’ schedule will come out in April or May). - Hamler doesn’t need any extra motivation in his recovery, but the arrival of new quarterback Russell Wilson will undoubtedly put a pep in his step. Hamler (5-9, 178 pounds) is a similar type of receiver as Tyler Lockett (5-10, 182 pounds), who was one of Wilson’s favorite targets in Seattle. - “I’m very cool with Tyler Lockett, too, and we talk all the time,” Hamler said, via the Denver Post. “But I told [Wilson], ‘I want to be your version of Tyler Lockett, and if I can be better, I’ll be better.’” - Hamler caught 30 passes for 381 yards and three touchdowns in 13 games as a rookie in 2020. Lockett caught 73 passes for 1,175 yards and eight touchdowns last season. - The Broncos already have three established receivers in Courtland Sutton, Tim Patrick and Jerry Jeudy, so if Hamler can become anything close to Lockett, Wilson will have one of the best sets of WRs in the NFL. - Follow the Broncos Wire Podcast: - Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Google Podcasts - - - List - - Russell Wilson trade: Seahawks fan provides Seattle perspective for Broncos fans - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Broncos Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Broncos Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
