When the Russell Wilson trade became official on Wednesday, the Seattle Seahawks put a clear spin on their story, with owner Jody Allen, general manager John Schneider and coach Pete Carroll all pinning the split on the quarterback, saying Wilson initiated the trade. - Wilson was asked about that during his first press conference as the Denver Broncos’ new quarterback, and he had a diplomatic response. - “Yeah, I didn’t initiate it,” Wilson said with a smile. “It was definitely mutual. Along the way, there’s definitely been a lot of conversations and it hasn’t been I initiated anything. But it is what it is.” - There is now a report that contradicts Seattle’s side of the story. Mike Florio of ProFootallTalk.com wrote on Friday that “the Seahawks initiated the communications with the Broncos” leading up to the Wilson trade. - Seattle’s falling out with Wilson might date back all the way back to 2018 when Schneider attended Josh Allen’s pro day. Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated wrote a great story about that pro day situation and the details leading up to the trade. - There has also been speculation in recent years that Carroll’s run-first mindset clashed with Wilson’s ambitious playing style. Regardless of who initiated the trade talks, it seems clear that the quarterback and Seahawks have had a strained relationship for a while, leading one to believe the split was a mutual decision. - The good news for the Broncos is Wilson handpicked Denver, and new coach Nathaniel Hackett helped Aaron Rodgers put up big numbers with the Green Bay Packers. The QB’s relationship with the Broncos seems unlikely to have the same problems, especially if Denver lets Russ cook like Rodgers did in Green Bay. - Follow the Broncos Wire Podcast: - Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Google Podcasts - - - Gallery - These 25 celebrities are Broncos fans - - - - - - view 24 images - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Broncos Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Broncos Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
