The Denver Broncos won a big legal battle in January, with a judge ruling that Edgar Kaiser’s estate did not have a valid or enforceable right of first refusal for a sale of the team. - That ruling allowed the Broncos to move forward toward a sale, and the team is expected to be sold for $4 billion or more. Kaiser’s estate is not giving up, however. - Kaiser’s heirs have appealed that ruling, according to KUSA-TV’s Marshall Zelinger and Mike Klis. This appeal process “could overlap, if not delay” a sale of the team, according to Zelinger and Klis. - Kaiser sold the team to late owner Pat Bowlen in 1984 and he retained a right of first refusal for a future sale. A judge ruled in January that the ROFR between Kaiser and Bowlen ended when the two parties died. - The Broncos are still moving forward toward a sale despite the appeal, with the team presumably confident they will win this latest legal challenge. Denver’s NFL franchise is still hoping to compete a sale by late summer ahead of the start of the 2022 season. - Follow the Broncos Wire Podcast: - Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Google Podcasts - - - List - - Russell Wilson trade: Seahawks fan provides Seattle perspective for Broncos fans - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Broncos Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Broncos Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
