The Denver Broncos re-signed inside linebacker Josey Jewell to a two-year, $11 million contract last week. The two-year deal averages $5.5 million per season and included a $4.5 million signing bonus. - For salary cap purposes, that signing bonus will be prorated over the next two years (a $2.25 million cap hit in each of the next two seasons). This year, Jewell will have a low base salary of just $1.5 million and a total salary cap hit of $3.75 million, according to OverTheCap.com. - Next year, Jewell’s base salary will increase to $4.49 million and he will have a $510,000 roster bonus, giving him a total cap hit of $7.25 million in 2023. Jewell could also earn up to $1 million through sack, interception and team win incentives, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis. - If the Broncos want to, they could part ways with Jewell next offseason with a $2.25 million “dead money” cap hit and a total cap savings of $5 million in 2023. An ideal scenario would see Jewell play well enough to complete the two-year deal. - The 27-year-old linebacker is entering his fifth year in the NFL. - Follow the Broncos Wire Podcast: - Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Google Podcasts - - - List - - Twitter reacts to Broncos stealing Randy Gregory from Cowboys - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Broncos Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Broncos Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
