The Denver Broncos signed Josh Johnson to a one-year contract earlier this week and he’s now set to compete with Brett Rypien for the backup quarterback job behind Russell Wilson this summer. - Johnson’s been through multiple backup QB battles in the past and he’s learned to focus on himself in the competition. - “For me, it’s always been about control what I can control,” Johnson said during his introductory Zoom press conference Monday. “Walking in the building and being the same guy every day — being focused, being disciplined, being detailed to the craft, and just going out on the field and letting my God-given talents speak for themselves. The beauty of a quarterback compaction is there is only one guy under center at once. - “It’s multiple guys in the room, but there’s only one guy who actually goes under center. That, to me, is what I worry about the most because that’s what I can control. I’m excited to get here and have a healthy competition with these guys because we’re still teammates first. Being together is what’s going to drive this team. I’m excited to get here with a healthy competition and letting the best man win.” - The Broncos might add yet another quarterback this offseason, either a late-round pick or undrafted free agent to attend camp as QB4. Right now, though, Johnson and Rypien are the candidates for the backup job and Johnson’s experience might make him the early favorite. - Follow the Broncos Wire Podcast: - Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Google Podcasts - - - List - - Russell Wilson trade: Seahawks fan provides Seattle perspective for Broncos fans - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Broncos Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Broncos Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
