Anyone who remembers watching the Denver Broncos in the 1980s and 1990s will recall that the team was never out of any game as long as John Elway was the quarterback. - Elway was a master at comebacks, calm and composed. Denver’s new quarterback, Russell Wilson, has a similar knack for keeping his team alive. Wilson has 24 fourth-quarter comeback wins on his resume, seven away from Elway’s total. - Wilson also has 32 game-winning drives in his career, fourth-most among active quarterbacks. - “We’ve gone against each other a bunch of times and the fact is when you’re going against Russell Wilson, the game’s never over,” Nathaniel Hackett said at Wilson’s introductory press conference earlier this month. “I think we had one game, we were talking about, I think there was a touchdown then the next play was another touchdown, another play was another touchdown, and it went back and forth. He’s electric. Whenever his name is mentioned to anybody across this league, it puts fear into people. - “So now, to have the opportunity to be able to work with him and be with him and support him, it makes everybody excited. It makes me excited. It makes the players excited. This is unbelievable. Yeah, it’s true excitement to be able to work with a guy like this, a guy that has won a Super Bowl, a guy that has been so unbelievably successful. The idea now is just make it even better.” - Wilson was also the fastest quarterback in NFL history to reach 100 wins, claiming a record that was previously held by Peyton Manning (Manning also holds the record for the most fourth-quarter comebacks at 43). - Manning was 36 when he joined the Broncos in 2012; Wilson is 33. Fans in Denver can expect many more wins in the coming years. - Follow the Broncos Wire Podcast: - Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Google Podcasts - - - List - - Russell Wilson trade: Seahawks fan provides Seattle perspective for Broncos fans - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Broncos Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Broncos Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
