ESPN's Brian Windhorst reported Friday that swingman Joe Johnson could have a deal lined up with the Houston Rockets. Johnson, a 36-year-old veteran of 17 seasons who was traded from the Utah Jazz to Sacramento at Thursday's trade deadline, is virtually certain to receive a contract buyout from the rebuilding Kings, after which he would be free to sign with any team. - News of mutual interest between the Rockets and Johnson was first reported on February 2 by ClutchFans insider CyberX. - Though Johnson is averaging just 7.3 points (42% FG, 27.4% three-point FG) in 21.9 minutes per game this season with the Jazz, he was limited early in the season by an injury to his right shooting wrist and has significantly improved his percentages of late. Since December 21, representing his last 21 games, Johnson has shot 36.2% from behind the arc — very close to his career mark of 37.2%. - In Friday's show, our Ben DuBose takes a deep dive into Johnson's numbers this season (such as the aforementioned ones) and explain why he's suddenly become very bullish on the concept of adding him to the 40-13 Rockets. - Learn more about your ad choices.
