After a nine-year NFL career where he competed in 110 games, former Kansas City Chiefs stalwart Mike DeVito will be inducted into the Maine Sports Hall of Fame. In his three seasons in Kansas City DeVito tallied 48 tackles from 2013 to 2015 as a key asset in the team’s turnaround in the early Andy Reid era. - Though his selection by the prestigious institution was mostly tied to his time playing for the University of Maine football team, Chiefs fans are sure to recognize the greatness that got him into such elite company. He tallied 16 career sacks as a Black Bear, earning all-conference honors after a standout 2006 campaign. - As a college star at an FCS school, he went undrafted in 2007 signing with the New York Jets and eventually making his debut in Week 12 of his rookie season. He played six seasons in New York, making a name for himself as a starting-caliber lineman who played with grit that could improve any defense. - As one of the earliest additions to the new-look 2013 Chiefs roster, former general manager John Dorsey made a point to sign DeVito as soon as free agency opened, inking him to a three-year deal that March. He made 14 starts for Kansas City before tearing his Achilles early in 2014. He would go on to play in 13 more games for the Chiefs in 2015 when he came off injured reserve, securing 3 sacks and 19 tackles in his final season. - Though he was often overshadowed by the top-flight talent the team had on defense in his time with the team, DeVito was a rock-solid defensive lineman who helped change Kansas City’s fortunes in short order after the Chiefs’ meltdown 2012 campaign. His presence helped free up Tamba Hali and Justin Houston in the pass rush, and his knack for eating up run blocks with consistency made him a menace to any opposing gameplan. - - List - - Chiefs 2021 rookie season review: DE Joshua Kaindoh - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Chiefs Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Chiefs Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
