NFL free agency may dominate the headlines this time of year, but plenty of attention is paid to the other “March Madness.” The annual battle of top college basketball teams in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament takes center stage. - A member of the Kansas City Chiefs’ roster is paying even closer attention to this year’s tournament as his alma mater looks to repeat as national champions. Mark Vital is entering his second season in the NFL after recently signing a future/reserve contract with Kansas City after spending a portion of last season on the practice squad. Vital was a starter on the Baylor Bears national championship men’s basketball team in 2021 in his senior year. The 25-year-old averaged 6.4 points and 6.4 rebounds during his four-year college career. - In a recently shared video on Twitter, Vital is wearing his old Baylor number 11 jersey in a car rooting his former teammates before their opening-round game on Thursday. - - Let’s go pic.twitter.com/SYaURKKXnh - — Mark Vital Jr. (@MarkVitalJr) March 17, 2022 - - - “Still can fit my jersey with all the extra layers and everything,” said Vital. “It’s crazy, man, on to this Baylor game, baby, let’s go!” - Vital went undrafted in the NBA, only appearing on a Summer League roster before making his intentions known that he will switch to football. He was initially signed by the Seattle Seahawks last September only to be waived and picked up by the Chiefs a few days later. Many former basketball players have turned to the NFL to find success as professional athletes with examples such as Antonio Gates and Chiefs All-Time great Tony Gonzalez. - They might want to consider putting Vital on the hail mary team in Kansas City. - - Baylor’s Mark Vital sent this shot pic.twitter.com/voD4GX6FFT - — Bleacher Report (@BleacherReport) March 19, 2021 - - - Baylor won their opening-round game convincingly over Norfolk State 85-49.
