- - - A former NFL wide receiver is attempting a comeback with the Kansas City Chiefs. - According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Chiefs are set to sign former Cleveland Browns and New York Giants WR Corey Coleman. A first-round draft pick out of Baylor in the 2016 NFL draft, Coleman hasn’t appeared in an NFL game since the 2018 NFL season. - Coleman didn’t play anywhere in 2021 after he was suspended for six games for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing substances. In 2019, he suffered an ACL injury in training camp that ended his season prematurely and in 2020 he spent the majority of the season on the practice squad in New York. - - Comeback? The #Chiefs are signing former #Giants WR Corey Coleman, source said. Just 27, Coleman is back in the NFL after a year out. - — Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 22, 2022 - - - This move has Brett Veach written all over it. He loves to buy low on former first-round draft picks and take a crack at developing them where others have failed. Coleman is just 27 years old and he had loads of talent coming out of Baylor, but that talent was sunk on really bad Browns and Giants teams. The 5-11 and 185-pound receiver ran a 4.37 40-yard dash at the 2016 NFL Scouting Combine. He has 61 career receptions for 789 yards and five touchdowns during his three years playing in the league. - If Coleman catches on in Kansas City, look for special teams to be the deciding factor. The team just lost Byron Pringle to the Chicago Bears and now they have an opening at kick returner. Coleman finished ninth in the NFL in kick return yards in 2018 with 598 yards on 23 returns in just eight games played. - - List - - How the Chiefs can win Wave 2 of free agency - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Chiefs Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Chiefs Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
