Two teams were reportedly in the running to acquire Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill — the Miami Dolphins and the New York Jets. - Hill ended up with the Dolphins, but the Jets had also submitted an offer to Kansas City. Because a deal was contingent on Hill signing a contract extension, he essentially was able to choose his destination, and it looks like he chose the right spot for his former team based on the trade compensation. - According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the offer from New York didn’t include a first-round draft pick. Instead, it was a compilation of draft picks that added up to a value similar to the Dolphins’ offer. - - Jets trade offer to the Chiefs for Tyreek Hill – that Kansas City would have accepted if the WR opted for NY – did not include a first-round pick, but rather multiple picks that were commensurate to the Dolphins’ offer based on the draft value chart that teams use, per sources. - — Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 23, 2022 - - - Had Hill chosen to go to the Jets, the Chiefs would have received the Nos. 35, 38 and 69 picks in the 2022 NFL draft. In return, the team would have sent Hill and pick No. 103. - - Here is the trade the Chiefs and Jets had in place for Tyreek Hill: - Chiefs would have gotten picks No. 35, 38 and 69 - Jets would have gotten Hill and No. 103. - — Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 23, 2022 - - - The Chiefs, instead, got a haul of draft picks from Miami. That package translates to about the same amount on the NFL’s trade value chart (around 1,227 points) as the Jets’ offer. That said, the optics of the deal with the Dolphins looks much better than it would have if Hill had been traded to the Jets. There were some reports that said New York was willing to part with pick No. 10, but it doesn’t seem like they were willing to sweeten the pot in order to land Hill. Perhaps they should have been willing because now they’ll have to play against him twice a year in the AFC East. - - List - - Current, former Chiefs players react to trade of Tyreek Hill - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Chiefs Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Chiefs Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
