- - - James White had some low moments following the hip injury that put him out for the 2021 season. - The 30-year-old has been with the New England Patriots for eight seasons and he’s remained relatively healthy throughout his career. So, the hip subluxation he suffered came as a shock and it was a new experience for White. He initially questioned if he would ever play again and now he’s back with the Patriots on a two-year, $5 million deal. - White spoke with reporters on Monday about the experience and detailed his concerns about playing again. - “At first, you think you’re never going to be out there again,” transcribed by masslive.com. - White was a free agent this offseason and he understands the risks that come with his injury, along with the fact the Patriots have young talent at running back. He went into free agency with an open mind and wasn’t sure how it would turn out. - “I was open to anything,” White said. “I didn’t really know what my free agency market was going to be like coming off this injury. Whether anybody would want to quote-unquote take a chance on me. But Bill had the confidence and wanted me back, so that was kind of important to me. To still be wanted after this is definitely something that helped me out a lot.” - “Being wanted after an injury like that is not highly likely, especially at the running back position. That’s just the way it’s been. So it was an easy decision for me. Bill is one of the greatest coaches of all time. We’ve built a great relationship over the years. For him to still have the confidence in me, it means a lot.” - Belichick’s confidence is huge for White and will bring back a backfield that could be among the best in the NFL this year. The legendary coach also made moves to bring back veterans like Devin McCourty, Matthew Slater, Trent Brown, Ja’Whaun Bentley, Nick Folk and Brian Hoyer. - The Patriots will retain veteran leadership and the return of White will do nothing but positive things for the locker room. - - List - - Grading the Patriots' signings, trades and re-signings in free agency - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Patriots Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Patriots Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
