- - - - Here’s some must-see viewing for New Orleans Saints fans and LSU Tigers faithful who find themselves rooting for the Cincinnati Bengals on Super Bowl weekend: legendary Saints quarterback Drew Brees, now a football analyst with NBC Sports, sat down with former LSU standout and current Bengals passer Joe Burrow to take a look at Super Bowl LVI and reflect on Burrow’s journey to get here. - While the conversation covered everything from Burrow’s childhood to his most recent NFL season, the Louisiana connection couldn’t be dismissed. When Brees asked Burrow if there were similarities between spending two seasons at LSU and winning a national championship against spending two years with the Bengals and leading them to a Super Bowl appearance, Burrow was quick to respond. - “It’s felt pretty similar. We have a lot of the same players. Ja’Marr (Chase) is here, Tyler Shelvin is here, a lot of guys I played with at Ohio State as well. The surroundings for me when I got here were very familiar, I knew a lot of people,” Burrow said. “Then, our locker room is really, really close, and it was the same way at LSU. And I really think that’s what’s put us over the edge.” - Burrow became a Louisiana icon during his Heisman Trophy-winning national title run in 2019. Even beyond Burrow, the connections between LSU, the state of Louisiana, and this Bengals team are hard to miss. On Cincinnati’s roster are six players that played college football at either LSU, Tulane or Louisiana Tech. Five players on the roster are Louisiana natives. And multiple former Saints players — Vonn Bell, Trey Hendrickson, and Eli Apple — are starting for the Bengals on Sunday. - NBC Sports knew exactly what they were doing when they scheduled the most prolific player in Saints history to interview perhaps the most beloved LSU quarterback ahead of this season’s Super Bowl. It’s a perfect pairing, and might be just what’s needed to win over any holdouts in black and gold before the Bengals kickoff with the Los Angeles Rams. - - List - - Multiple Saints players named top free agent targets for other teams - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Saints Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Saints Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
