Here’s the latest in Atlanta Falcons nonsense, which is always welcome news to New Orleans Saints fans: superstar Falcons wide receiver Calvin Ridley, who has been the subject of trade rumors for months, has been suspended by the NFL for gambling on games involving his own team during a late-season hiatus from Atlanta. Ridley later claimed on social media that he only wagered $1,500 and that he does not have a gambling problem, but he’s still going to be out of football for the next year. - That means he won’t suit up against the Saints, which may have been the case anyway given all the chatter surrounding a trade involving him. Still, he’s going to be a huge absence for Atlanta to deal with — Ridley averaged 6.0 receptions and 92.7 receiving yards per game against New Orleans, though his teams ultimately went 1-5 in those rivalry games. - We’ll see how the Falcons adapt to life without Ridley or their former number-one receiver Julio Jones, who also requested a trade to get out of Atlanta after the Saints drafted Marshon Lattimore and Marcus Williams. Lattimore and Williams didn’t allow Jones to catch a single touchdown pass  against them during the 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020 seasons, so he made sure to get out of there. It’s too bad Atlanta can’t keep its star talent happy. - - List - - Comparing contract projections for top Saints free agents - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Saints Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Saints Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
