Free Agent Offensive Tackle Terron Armstead discussed how he is approaching free agency for the first time in his career… - "I don't want to rule out the @Saints." - LISTEN | #Saints | @T_Armstead72 pic.twitter.com/qzkpPQOPqH - — SiriusXM NFL Radio (@SiriusXMNFL) March 11, 2022 - - - Here’s some insight from one of the most important New Orleans Saints free agents-to-be. Longtime Saints left tackle Terron Armstead stands to make more money in free agency than nearly anyone else, but he isn’t ruling out a return to New Orleans. Armstead shared his take on the situation during a Friday appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio. - “I think it’s still a possibility to return to the Saints,” Armstead said, continuing: “Those guys always fine a way to make things align. I wouldn’t want to rule out the Saints and I don’t want to rule them out. I’ve been there so long, and I love New Orleans.” - It’s probably just wishful thinking. As much loyalty as Armstead may feel towards the Saints, he owes it to himself and his family to take the best offer possible. This is likely his last chance at a major NFL payday, and that’s going to create generational wealth for his family. Elite left tackles like him have typically earned $22 million or more in recent years, and that’s not a number even the salary cap-flaunting Saints can navigate comfortably. - Sure, the Saints could sign Armstead to a deal paying him at the level he deserves. But between the resources it would tie up, their needs at other positions, and the hazards that come with it — great as he is, Armstead’s extensive injury history has caused him to play 7, 10, 10, 15, 14, and 8 games per season, dating back to 2016 — combine to make it unpalatable for them. Maybe we’d feel more optimistic about a reunion if Armstead had a cleaner bill of health or if the market hadn’t driven his contract requirements so high. - But stranger things have happened. It’s very possible that Armstead doesn’t get those top-shelf contract offers once other teams can begin calling on Monday, at the start of the NFL’s legal tampering window for free agency. If his market flies closer to a number the Saints are comfortable paying, maybe he gets his wish to finish his career in black and gold. - - List - - 4 free agents the Saints should let walk away - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Saints Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Saints Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
