The Jets and LT George Fant have not discussed an extension, per ESPN’s Rich Cimini. - Cimini poured cold water on a recent contradicting report. He noted that the organization is a fan of Fant, but there’s been no talk of a new deal with the lineman still under contract for another season. - Robert Saleh recently made it clear that Fant and Mekhi Becton will battle for the starting left tackle job this year. Fant thrived at the position in 2021 after Becton injured his knee in Week 1 and missed the rest of the season. - “It’d be a disservice to George and the work that he’s put in and the things he was able to do this year to just tell him that he can’t compete for that job,” Saleh said at the Senior Bowl. “I think Mekhi has the skill set to do whatever he wants. He just has to put his mind to it.” - Fant, after moving over from the right side, finished the year as the third-best pass-blocking tackle after allowing only 18 pressures. He allowed just one sack over 889 snaps. - - List - - Jets Free Agent Profile: What to do with OT Morgan Moses? - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Jets Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Jets Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
