It looks like another former Jet will coach for the Vikings next season. - Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell, a former Jets QB himself, plans to hire former Jets defensive coordinator Mike Pettine for an unspecified role on his staff, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Pettine last coached with the Bears in 2021 as a senior defensive assistant following three years as the Packers’ defensive coordinator. - Pettine, who began his NFL coaching career with the Ravens, was hired to be the Jets’ defensive coordinator under Rex Ryan for four seasons from 2009-2012. His and Ryan’s defenses ranked top-eight in yards allowed all four years, ranked first in points allowed in 2009, and sixth in points allowed in 2010. Pettine followed Ryan to the Bills in 2013 after both were fired by the Jets. He then went on to be the head coach of the Browns from 2014-2015 before taking a few years off from coaching. - Pettine returned as a consultant for the Seahawks in 2017 and then coached with the Packers from 2018-2020. - - List - - 4 lessons Jets can learn from Rams and Bengals - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Jets Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Jets Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
