Important decisions lie ahead for Joe Douglas with free agency looming. - The Jets made some progress in 2021, but Robert Saleh still needs more talent to work with. New York enters the offseason with holes on both sides of the ball and free agency is the perfect time to address some of them. - Linebacker isn’t a glaring need for the Jets this offseason thanks to a couple of positive developments that took place last season. C.J. Mosley had a career year in his return from what was essentially a two-year hiatus, while Quincy Williams came on strong after stepping into the starting lineup. Both will play key roles in New York’s defense in 2022. - The Jets will likely still be interested in upgrading the position despite what Mosley and Williams accomplished in 2021. Blake Cashman can’t stay healthy and Hamsah Nasirildeen and Jamien Sherwood are still developing. If New York’s defense wants to take the next step in 2022, it will need more production from its third linebacker. - Douglas has to be careful not to take on a worse option than Nasirildeen or Sherwood, though. There are plenty of talented linebackers set to hit free agency. There are also many who don’t fit with the Jets. Here are six New York should avoid.
