The Jets currently rank first in the NFL in total draft capital, according to Warren Sharp. - New York owns nine total picks in 2022, and all of them are within the first five rounds of the draft. Four are in the first two rounds. That stockpile pushed Gang Green’s total draft value to 124 points – 20 more than the Eagles and Giants behind them – which is 98 percent higher than the league average and 100 points more than the 32nd-ranked Rams. - That 124-point mark is also the third-most by any team since at least 1970, per Sharp. The 1991 Cowboys (132.2 points) and 2018 Browns (130 points) are the only other teams that accumulated more, per Sharp. - The model famously used by former Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson also has the Jets ranked first in draft capital. - This is all well and good if the Jets end up with quality players. Four years after the Browns’ 2018 draft, Cleveland only has QB Baker Mayfield, CB Denzel Ward and RB Nick Chubb left. While Ward and Chubb are studs, Mayfield’s development stunted this past season and the rest of the class is either on other teams or out of the league. - The Jets did well with their picks last offseason when they owned the second-most draft capital behind only the Jaguars. Joe Douglas drafted a starting QB, OG, WR and RB, as well as several role players on defense. Douglas’s 2020 class is off to a worse start, but that was also his first draft as the Jets’ GM. - Douglas can’t afford to miss much on this draft, especially with so many picks in the first few rounds. The Jets need to come out with at least four starting-caliber players at major positions of need, which include edge, receiver, offensive line and defensive back. - - List - - 2022 NFL draft: Jets go receiver at No. 10 in new CBS Sports mock - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Jets Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Jets Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
