A Jets season-ticket holder knows one player he absolutely doesn’t want his favorite team to draft: Notre Dame safety Kyle Hamilton. - The fan spoke with Robert Saleh during a conference call with season ticket holders Wednesday and begged the Jets coach to not draft Hamilton with the fourth overall pick. The caller referenced Jamal Adams, whom the Jets drafted sixth overall in 2017 and traded away three years later when his relationship with the team soured, as well as the team’s bigger need at edge rusher. - “I think I speak for all Jets fans – we want to see somebody on the defensive line picked,” the fan said. “We’re looking for a defensive end, an edge rusher, instead of a cornerback or safety because without an edge rush the safety is just going to sit there.” - Unsurprisingly, Saleh didn’t offer any indication as to what he and the Jets think of Hamilton. But the Jets coach did agree that bolstering the defensive line is the key to building a great defense and helping out the secondary. - “You’re right – it starts up front,” Saleh said. “Always has, always will.” - Saleh added that the Jets will start looking at the draft during the NFL Combine next week and that “everything’s always open” and that there are “a million different directions you can go.” - It’s anyone’s guess who New York will draft with the fourth overall pick. The Jets have a number of needs – some of which could be fixed in free agency or in the trade market – which gives them many different possible prospects to target with their first pick. In addition to safety and the defensive line, New York has needs at cornerback, receiver and on the offensive line. - - List - - 2022 NFL draft: Jets go receiver at No. 10 in new CBS Sports mock - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Jets Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Jets Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
