Important decisions lie ahead for Joe Douglas with free agency looming. - The Jets made some progress in 2021, but Robert Saleh still needs more talent to work with. New York enters the offseason with holes on both sides of the ball and free agency is the perfect time to address some of them. - Gang Green is in good shape on the defensive line with Quinnen Williams continuing to get better, John Franklin-Myers locked up on a contract extension and Carl Lawson set to return from a ruptured Achilles in 2022. There is still room for improvement, though, as another pass rusher could make Jeff Ulbrich’s front four a dangerous group. - Franklin-Myers and Lawson were slated to be the Jets’ starting defensive ends in 2021 and that could be the case again next season. However, New York might opt to go after another edge rusher to play opposite Lawson and kick Franklin-Myers inside. Doing so would put Franklin-Myers in a position where he has succeeded in the past and open the door for the Jets to take their pass rush to the next level. - New York has to make sure it doesn’t move Franklin-Myers in favor of an inferior talent or scheme fit, though. Here are six defensive ends Douglas should avoid.
