With NFL free agency nearing, the Jets could use a cornerback. - New York has interest in J.C. Jackson, one of the best available, according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini. However, that doesn’t mean Gang Green fans should expect the Patriots free agent to sign in New York. - Cimini notes that it’s unlikely Joe Douglas hands out a market-setting deal this offseason, and Jackson could command $18 million per year. Cimini specified that the Jets’ level of interest is unclear and that the team is likely just doing its due diligence, as all teams do. - While his cost will likely price the Jets out, Jackson otherwise fits what they need at cornerback. New York is looking for a ballhawk this offseason, and Jackson has 17 interceptions and 37 defended passes since 2020. The 26-year-old has 25 picks and 53 breakups over 62 career games. - Youngsters Bryce Hall and Brandin Echols flashed for New York last season, but the Jets still need a true No. 1. Other high-profile options include Carlton Davis and Stephon Gilmore. Derek Stingley Jr. and Ahmad Gardner are also possibilities in the draft. - - List - - 10 cornerbacks the Jets could target in free agency - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Jets Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Jets Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
