Long Island native Elijah Riley is staying with the Jets. - Gang Green exercised its exclusive rights option on the 23-year-old, per Newsday’s Al Iannazzone. Riley became the third safety to be retained by the Jets since Thursday, joining veterans Lamarcus Joyner and Will Parks, who both re-signed with New York. - Joe Douglas and the Jets liked Riley long before he joined the team. New York signed him off the Eagles’ practice squad in November after Marcus Maye suffered a season-ending injury. The Port Jefferson and Army product was more than just a feel-good homecoming story, as Riley impressed over seven starts. He recorded 45 tackles, three for a loss, one defended pass and one sack. He suffered a scary concussion against Miami in Week 15, but he only missed one game. - Riley gave up a game-winning touchdown to Tom Brady and the Bucs in Week 17, but he otherwise flashed potential with New York. Depending on what the Jets do in free agency and the draft, he could compete for a starting job next season. - - List - - 2022 NFL draft: Jets land top safety, dynamic wideout in Mel Kiper Jr.'s latest mock - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Jets Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Jets Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
