Robert Saleh is thrilled the Jets were able to keep Braxton Berrios this offseason. - “[I’m] super, super happy we brought him back,” the head coach said earlier this week while speaking at the NFL owners meetings. Saleh cited Berrios’ character, special teams prowess, and comfortability as a versatile piece in Mike LaFleur’s offense as reasons for wanting him back. - Berrios did a little bit of everything for the Jets in 2021, especially down the stretch. He scored all four of his offensive touchdowns — two receiving and two rushing — between Weeks 15 and 17 and took a return to the house in Week 16. Berrios was a first-team All-Pro return man, leading the league with 30.4 yards per kick return. He also finished second on the Jets with 46 receptions. - That breakout gadget performance earned Berrios a two-year, $12 million deal with $7 million guaranteed. Prior to re-signing with the Jets, some thought Berrios could fetch a richer deal, but he was happy to stay in New York. - “I’m extremely happy that this whole process is over and I can get back to focusing on football,” Berrios said after re-signing. “I didn’t want to chase every penny. I wasn’t trying to auction off to the highest bidder at the end of the day. This was comfortable. This was a great destination for me and I was clear about that throughout this whole process. - “I’m so happy that I’m here.” - - List - - 5 takeaways from Robert Saleh's NFL owners meetings presser - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Jets Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Jets Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
