Braxton Berrios capped a splendid season with a first-team All-Pro selection on Friday. If recent history is any indication, that means he won’t be a Jet much longer.Berrios is Gang Green’s third All-Pro in the last four years, joining fellow return man Andre Roberts (2018) and outspoken safety Jamal Adams (2019). Neither played another snap for the Jets after their accolade; New York let Roberts walk in free agency, while Adams forced his way out of town via trade to Seattle. Now Berrios is set to become a free agent, which could continue the Jets’ stretch of saying goodbye to All-Pros. Robert Saleh made it clear that he wants Berrios back, but it remains to be seen what Joe Douglas would pay for the special teams star and receiver.Berrios earned his All-Pro nod as a kick returner, capturing 27 of the 50 first-place votes. He led the NFL with 30.4 yards per kickoff and finished second with 852 total kick return yards. Berrios took one return to the house in the Jets’ Week 16 win over Jacksonville, earning himself AFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors.Berrios also received two All-Pro votes as a punt returner. In addition to losing All-Pros, the Jets have let impact special teamers leave via free agency recently. Roberts and K Jason Myers, a Pro Bowler with New York in 2018, are two examples that Jets fans will remember well. But Berrios proved to be a playmaker on offense in 2021 as well, hauling in 46 receptions for 431 yards and two touchdowns while rushing 10 times for 69 yards and two scores.Berrios was often used in gadget fashion, but he showed a rapport with Zach Wilson, a knack for finding the endzone, and an ability to handle slot duties. With starting slot receiver Jamison Crowder also heading for free agency, Berrios could enjoy an even larger role on offense if he returns to the Jets in 2022.That’s something the Jets should consider as they ponder whether to snap their All-Pro streak.List28 Jets slated for NFL free agency this offseasonEmailSign upLike this article?Sign up for the Jets Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morningAn error has occuredPlease re-enter your email address. Thanks for signing up!You'll now receive the top Jets Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
